Diploma of Social Media Marketing

Course Curriculum

This unit focuses on ‘Content Marketing’- an organisation publishing content that is either unique (i.e. created by the organisation) or curated (sharing someone else’s content). The purpose of content marketing is to achieve specific marketing goals, such as increasing brand awareness, positioning the business as a voice of authority in its industry, drivingtraffic to a website,and/orincreasing search engine rankings. In order to be effective, an organisation must have a clear content marketing strategy and closely manage the content creation process.

Learn about other social media marketing opportunities such as paid advertising, promotional posts, and community management- responding to comments from the organisation’s social media network. Paid social media advertising is particularly important skill for marketers given how challenging itis to achieve traction on mainstream networks without a dedicated marketing budget.

Discover social media networks that have global usage, however comparatively less advertisers. This creates an opportunity for organisations to gain more traction than the crowded mainstream social media networks. Niche networks also contain a more defined audience demographic. This unit includes WhatsApp, Snapchat, Pinterest, WeChat and Messenger.

Learn how individual social media profiles can achieve equal results, and often higher, than an organisation’s own social media profiles. This Unit you will also establish your own personal brand on social media, an essential exercise for any professional social media marketer.

This unit closes the loop on the social media marketing process. Once you have posted content to social media networks (whether the organisation’s or an individual’s profile), it’s likely that a large amount of traffic will be directed to the organisation’s website. If the business transacts online (e.g. an ecommerce store selling clothing), then people who visit the website can be ‘converted’ into a paying customer immediately. If not, it is essential that organisations retrieve an email address to turn the visitor into a sales lead. If successful, then the organisation can commence a lead nurturing process with the potential customers via email-a more personal social interaction.

In this unit you will learn how to conduct an analysis of market data in order to determine organisational and competitor business performance, and how to prepare market and business forecasts. This will help you in developing an organisation’s marketing plan and how to determine the current or potential future success of marketing strategies.

You will use statistical techniques to analyse organisational and competitor marketing performance, and discover how to interpret new and emerging trends when forecasting future business needs.

Discover how to determine the optimum marketing mix for an organisation through analysis of interrelated marketing components.

This unit will cover how to prepare and manage a marketing audit, with reference to an organisation’s marketing plan.

You will learn how to develop a comprehensive description of the organisation’s marketing operations as part of the marketing, planning and management auditing process. The outcomes of marketing audits are generally used to inform an organisation’s marketing plan.
